Alert! Today’s Extreme Weather Predicted for Greater Jakarta

JawaPos.com – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the Jabodetabek area will be hit by extreme weather in the form of the potential for very heavy rain from today to January 1. , 2023.

Based on the BMKG numerical weather model, the Jabodetabek area and several other areas in the next few days have the potential to experience extreme weather with an increase in heavy to very heavy rainfall.

“The potential for heavy to very heavy rains can occur starting December 30, 2022, where this potential can continue until January 1, 2023 in the morning,” said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati in a press conference quoted on Friday (30/12).< /p >

The peak of extreme weather today, according to Dwikorita, needs to be watched out for from the afternoon until early morning.

“Rain tends to occur fairly evenly with increasing intensity in the morning and evening,” he said
“The basic consideration is that there is still a large potential for extreme weather due to the identification of several active atmospheric dynamics phenomena that can trigger an increase in rainfall,” he explained.

Among them, said Dwikorita, the active Asian Monsoon in the northern hemisphere still contributes to an increase in the influx of wet air masses into the equatorial region, especially around the western part of Indonesia.

In addition, an MJO (Madden Jullian Oscillation) has been identified which is still quite active in southern Indonesia. This condition occurs simultaneously with the phenomena of active atmospheric waves, namely the Kelvin Wave and the Rossby Equatorial in the last week for the next few days. This condition makes a significant contribution to increasing the growth of rain clouds with the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in some areas.
