ARI Often Occurs During Season Change

batampos– Head of the Epidemiological and Immunization Surveillance Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, Dr. Ngabila Salama said, Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) must be watched out for in the midst of changing seasons which also affect the immune system.

“Diseases during weather changes are usually acute respiratory infections (ARI), more towards influenza, if pneumonia is more severe,” said Ngabila, Tuesday (27/9).

Ngabila said that changes in the weather in the middle of the transitional season caused various changes, namely the body becomes more vulnerable because it is exposed to immunity.

On the other hand, agents that transmit diseases such as microbes and germs become easier to infect humans due to a more conducive environment.

The transition period between the two seasons also raises the potential for other diseases due to waterlogging, one of which is dengue hemorrhagic fever, which is transmitted through mosquito bites.

The community must control the environment so that virus-carrying mosquitoes do not breed. Steps that can be taken are cleaning and draining water reservoirs so they don’t become nests for mosquitoes to lay eggs, closing water reservoirs, utilizing or recycling used goods.

If a change in weather causes flooding, people must also be aware of the risk of diseases such as diarrhea.

To maintain health to avoid disease, he reminded the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The trick is to have regular health checks for ages 15 years and over every 6-12 months to find out risk factors for non-communicable diseases, avoid smoking, exercise 30 minutes per day at least five days a week.

Another thing that must be done for a healthy life is a balanced diet complete with vegetables and fruit, reduce consumption of sugar, salt and fat, get enough rest and manage stress. (*)
