batampos – Instagram is launching a new security feature called Surveillance. This feature was launched to coincide with the launch of the #AnakIndonesiaAmanDigital campaign.

Head of Instagram Policy Programs Asia Pacific Tara Bedi said the launch of the Surveillance feature is an effort to build positive experiences when using Instagram, such as time management, comment filters, bullying filters, and others.

“The Supervision feature on Instagram that we are launching today is designed so that parents can build transparency with their children regarding the use of Instagram,” Tara said at the launch of #AnakIndonesiaAmanDigital in Jakarta, Tuesday.

The Supervision feature on Instagram is a feature that allows parents to link their Instagram account with their child’s account.

Once the two accounts are connected, parents can set the length of time their children use Instagram, see a list of the accounts they follow, and parents will also get a notification if their child reports an account or content on Instagram for some reason.

In the parent app, Instagram will provide further context for reports children generate and provide a link to the Instagram Education Center on how to discuss the issue with their child.

To activate the Supervision feature, the parent must first send an invitation to the child’s account, or vice versa, the child can invite the parent to supervise his account. However, this feature cannot be activated unilaterally.

Last July, Instagram was held
a consultation forum with several experts regarding the launch of the Surveillance feature on Instagram Indonesia.

This forum was attended by organizations and communities such as ECPAT Indonesia, YCAB Foundation, Siberkreasi, Sejiwa Foundation, ICT Watch, Riliv, Already Dong, momsweetmoms, as well as child and adolescent clinical psychologists Vera Itabiliana and Anastasia Satriyo.

“We hope this can help their journey as parents of a generation that is active on social media,” said Tara. (*)
