East Java became the overall champion, the last time it was won in 1985. It means, for 37 years East Java failed to bring home the MTQ trophy in rotation from the President. Since 1967, the Jakarta caravan has often won the overall championship. However, this time DKI Jakarta had to settle for being in the runner-up position.

In the procession of the HSN ceremony, the caravan group representing the districts/cities in East Java appeared in elegant attire. The men wear gloves and black hats, while the women also wear Muslim clothes. black hood. Most of them are santri in a number of Islamic boarding schools in East Java.

KH Abdul Hamid, the head of the MTQ caravan from East Java, was seen walking in front. After being in front of the honorary stage, the three heads of the East Java Tilawatil Quran Development Institute (LPTQ) handed over a rotating trophy from the President to Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. The first female governor’s smile seemed to widen.

Of course the caravan also gets a bonus from the governor. Those who won first place or gold medals received coaching money of Rp. 50 million. Then, the 2nd place winner or silver medal will get Rp. 40 million, and third place or bronze medal Rp. 30 million.

The winner is expected to receive IDR 5 million and the other participants will get a coaching bonus of IDR 2 million. Not only that, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place coaches also received special prizes from the governor who is also the general chairman of PP Muslimat NU.

“This achievement as the overall champion of the 29th National MTQ is a very beautiful gift for Santri Day 2022. Of course it is also a beautiful gift in the 77th Anniversary of East Java Province,” said Khofifah.

On that occasion, Khofifah also gave a message to KH Abdul Hamid, the head of the East Java MTQ caravan. “Please never be transferred to another province,” he said.

At MTQ 2022, the East Java caravan was strengthened by 122 participants. The details are 55 contestants, 28 officials, 26 coaches, 9 accompanying children, 2 public relations teams, and 2 medical teams. Of the number of contestants, East Java won 14 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.
