OpenAI Sora Can Convert Text into Video, Unair Observer Explains the Impact

Surabaya (beritajatim.com) – OpenAI, the company that created Chat-GPT, released its newest Artificial Intelligence (AI) model called Sora. This AI model is capable of creating videos with just text instructions.

In response, Airlangga University (Unair) Surabaya AI Observer Dr Aziz Fajar explained a number of negative impacts that need to be watched out for. On the other hand, of course there are also many positive impacts from this AI model.

“Sora's potential is very large. Because, maybe it can be used for various purposes. "As a generator of promotional videos, learning videos and others more quickly," said Aziz, Tuesday (20/2/2024).

He explained that Sora is the third artificial intelligence model released by OpenAI, after DALL-E and GPT. Like Chat-GPT, said Aziz, Sora works using a series of images.

From the input provided, Sora will generate one image from the input text. Then, a frame will be generated based on the previously generated image, so that a video is formed.

"If GPT learns grammar from text, Sora might learn how objects move (physics) in the real world," explained Aziz.

He said that the very rapid development of artificial intelligence was the result of the sophistication of the devices used.

“The biggest challenge in the development of computer science is the specifications of the devices used. "When the required device technology is found, AI development can develop rapidly," he said.

Apart from that, apart from being proof of the progress of human science, AI Sora also provides side effects in life.

Apart from positive impacts such as making promotional videos and learning, OpenAI Sora has a number of negative impacts that you need to be aware of.

According to Aziz, combined with voice imitating AI, crime will become more common. Even so, he advised not to worry because it is very possible that there are tools to detect AI-made videos.

“Like security systems in the field of computer networks, the development of AI to detect something must of course be based on existing generators. "So it is very possible to create AI to detect generator results," he said.

Aziz also stated that AI Sora is an alternative tool for making videos. Because, according to him, there are still many limitations, such as a maximum duration of 60 seconds. [ipl/but]
