JABARNEWS | CIANJUR – Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman said that to anticipate price increases ahead of Ramadhan, his party provided around 12 tons of rice, thousands of liters of cooking oil, hundreds of kilograms of meat and other food needs.

This, Herman continued, is an effort to meet the needs of residents and anticipate price increases, which is carried out by operating cheap food markets in traditional markets.

"Cheap food market operations will be held in markets in Cianjur from the north to the south, such as Cipanas Market, Cianjur Main Market, Sukanagara Market and other markets, as an effort to meet the needs of residents ahead of the fasting month," said Herman in Cianjur, Sunday (3/3/2024).

He explained that his party ensures that residents' food supplies are sufficient to ensure they are delicious in the coming months, especially rice, the stock of which will continue to increase along with the farmers' big harvest simultaneously in a number of areas in the middle of the year.

So the party is targeting a big harvest in the middle of the year, which can increase the stock of rice needed in West Java which is supplied from Cianjur. It is recorded that farmers' annual harvest in Cianjur reaches 500 thousand tons, while local demand for one year is only 250 thousand tons.

"Cianjur is a rice supplier area for a number of regions in West Java, including government reserve rice. "A number of programs have been implemented, including the village government buying farmers' crops in their area to anticipate food insecurity," he explained.

Meanwhile, other efforts are being made to meet the needs of residents and normalize rice prices, his party is speeding up the distribution of government-assisted rice to 277,079 Beneficiary Families (KPM) throughout Cianjur simultaneously.

Including providing premium quality rice at HET prices in collaboration with Bulog Cianjur, in every cheap food market program in the sub-district which is held every week, where other cheap food needs such as meat, chilies, tomatoes and other vegetables are available.

"During the fasting month until Eid, we guarantee that rice stocks are abundant and other food needs are sufficient. We have asked the relevant agencies to make food price reports every day, especially during fasting and before Eid," he said. (Ed)
