Ema Sumarna Ensures that Street Vendors and Parking in Monju are More Neatly Organized

JABARNEWS | BANDUNG – Bandung City Regional Secretary Ema Sumarna said that the arrangement in the Monju area continues to progress. Several street vendors who previously blocked access to this area have been relocated.

"According to its function, this area is a means of sports, playing and chatting with family. We are not killing the street vendor economy here. "The goal is that the aesthetics of this area can be enjoyed more optimally by the public," said Ema in a statement received, Monday (29/1/2024).

For visitor parking, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) and the West Java Provincial Government have also provided parking pockets to make it more organized and not cause traffic jams.

"Hopefully this progress can continue to run optimally, in order to create a sense of comfort for the community," he hoped.

Adding to the development of the Monju arrangement, the Head of Bandung City Cooperatives and SMEs, Atet Dedi Handiman, explained that in the initial stages, the Bandung City Government had recorded the number of street vendors and their types in the Monju area and its surroundings. Including Jalan Teuku Umar, Dipatiukur, and Singaperbangsa.

"It turns out that the street vendors' activities there are at different times. There are daytime, evening and street vendors specifically on Sundays. We monitor it every Sunday. "We are verifying the data as well as setting priorities, such as traders not being allowed to sell on the main highway coming down from Pasupati," explained Atet.

After being recorded, street vendors are encouraged to enter, including visitor parking where parking pockets have been determined.

The design of the arrangement has also been made by the Department of Human Settlements, Construction Development and Spatial Planning (Ciptabintar) by measuring the area of Monju for the placement of street vendors.

"This is an asset belonging to the province, so we are also waiting for permission from the province. "After that, we can arrange further, including the northern Monju area which is planned to also be used for parking and street vendors," he said.

He added that there are more than 1,500 street vendors in the Monju area. Based on data from the Bandung City Bappelitbang, as many as 1,508 street vendors sell around Monju. With the status of Bandung City residents as many as 1,018 street vendors, 382 residents outside Bandung City are street vendors, and the rest do not carry KTPs.

Of the 1,508 street vendors, they are divided into several types of business, the dominant ones being fashion with 787 street vendors, culinary (301 street vendors) and accessories (127 street vendors).

"This monitoring will be carried out periodically, for now we will make sure that street vendors do not block the road and do not sell in the Monju Park area. "It's permissible to reduce street vendors, it's not permissible to increase them," he said.

Atet added that the target of the current arrangement is to maintain consistency. Traders who previously sold in the park area must have moved and settled in the designated location. His party also ensures that the number of street vendors does not increase.

“Until now, we have only advised first. For sanctions, more specifically, the law will be enforced by Satpol PP and Transportation Department. Now barriers have been installed so that street vendors do not sell on the main road. The park area is clean of street vendors. "There are also people guarding the parking lot," he explained.

Regarding North Monju, currently the Bandung City Government is still waiting for permission from the West Java Provincial Government. If permission has been obtained, the street vendors on Jalan Dipatiukur, Teuku Umar, and Singaperbangsa are planned to be moved to northern Monju.

"So that there are no more obstacles to traffic, including parking so that it doesn't disrupt the flow. "But in northern Monju it must also be arranged first and the parking arrangements and street vendors must be determined after being ACCED by the province," he stressed. (Ed)
