Regarding IKN development, President Jokowi said that Indonesia wants to have a palace building, not a colonial relic

JABARNEWS | BANDUNG – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the construction of the Presidential Palace in the Archipelago Capital (IKN) was because the Indonesian people wanted to have a Presidential Palace building, not a colonial legacy.

President Jokowi said this during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Health Social Security Administering Agency (BPJS) building at IKN, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, Friday (1/3/2024).

"Indeed, we want to have a Presidential building (Palace) that is not a colonial relic. "We build it ourselves using our own products, done by our own nation's children and this will create pride and self-esteem," said President Jokowi.

He said that often when receiving guests from leaders of other countries at the Presidential Palace, the leaders of other countries praised the beauty of Indonesia's palace building.

However, the President cannot say anything because the current Jakarta Presidential Palace building is a legacy from the Dutch colonial era.

"(The palace) in Bogor is the same, in Yogya it's the same, in Cipanas it's the same," he said.

President Jokowi emphasized that the construction of the Presidential Palace at IKN was carried out so that the Indonesian nation would have pride in its own abilities and personality in culture.

On that occasion the President also invited people who came to IKN to try to see IKN from the highest place, namely at the location of the Presidential Palace Building at IKN, to see the current transformation of IKN development.

"Maybe for those who have never been to IKN, please go to the Palace to see what we are, what IKN will be like in the future, what kind of transformation will occur. "It will be seen that ladies and gentlemen have risen to the highest place, in the Palace," he said.

President Jokowi admitted that he did not know whether people could come to the construction site at the Presidential Palace or not, but he suggested that people try to see the IKN construction more clearly.

"I don't know if I can go in or not, but if I can, I think everyone should look at it from there. I have often, if I can, that's okay, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's okay, ladies and gentlemen. "But my suggestion is to try going there, you will see," he said. (Ed)
