batampos – The Indonesian U-23 national team secured a 1-0 victory over Australia in the second match of Group A of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Thursday.

Garuda Muda's only goal was scored by Komang Teguh Trisnanda following Nathan Tjoe-A-on's kick, from a corner kick, in the 45th minute.

With this result, Indonesia temporarily rose to second place in Group A standings with a collection of three points, while Australia dropped to fourth position, as quoted from the official AFC website.

Indonesia tried to take the initiative to attack from the start. In the second minute a good opportunity was obtained from a long ball which was received by Witan Sulaeman, followed by a low cross and met by Jeam Kelly Sroyer's shot which was parried by goalkeeper Patrick Beach.

The next good chance for Indonesia was obtained by Rafael Struick, with a shot that went wide to the right side of the Australian goal.

Entering the 21st minute, Indonesia was awarded a penalty. Referee Majed Mohammed Al Shamrani initially did not realize that Komang's arm had hit Mohamed Toure's shot in the box, but a VAR review made him take the decision to award Australia a penalty.

Goalkeeper Ernando Ari later became an Indonesian hero. Toure's execution to the left of the goal was perfectly anticipated by Ernando, to prevent Australia from breaking the deadlock.

After Ernando's success in saving Toure's penalty, the confidence of the Indonesian players has increased. They created a number of opportunities again through Marselino Ferdinand's strike and Komang's speculative kick.

Towards halftime, Indonesia received a corner kick. The corner kick was sent by Muhammad Ferrari's header to Nathan, who took the kick and Komang's header continued into Patrick Beach's goal. 1-0 for Indonesia, and lasted until the end of the first half.

Australia attacked hard in the second half. The first opportunity came from Toure's shot which was parried by goalkeeper Ernando, before the ball was then swept away by Rizky Ridho. After that, Ernando again had to work hard to prevent his goal from being conceded.

To thicken the defense of his team, coach Shin Tae-yong brought in Justin Hubner, who had recently joined the U-23 national team, to replace Jeam Kelly in the 72nd minute. Not long after, it was Fajar Fathurrahman's turn to be withdrawn to be replaced by Ilham Rio Fahmi.

Ernando has several times demonstrated his ability to read the ball and his positioning to defend Indonesia's goal from conceding. He successfully blocked substitute Lachlan Brook's shot before the end of normal time.

The referee then added 11 minutes of additional time, but Australia still failed to penetrate Indonesia's tight defense. It was Indonesia who had the opportunity to double their lead towards the end of the match, but Marselino's shot was blocked by an Australian defender in the final phase of the match.
