After the Third Presidential Candidate Debate: Prabowo's Electability Soars, Anies and Ganjar Even Fall

JABARNEWS | BANDUNG – Indonesia Polling Stations (IPS) released the latest survey regarding the electability of presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Of the 3 candidates, candidate pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka shot to the top position, followed by candidate pair number 1, Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar then candidate pair 3, Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD.

"When IPS asked respondents a question, if a presidential election (Pilpres) were currently being held, who would be chosen from the three current pairs of presidential-vice presidential candidates (paslon). "As a result, as many as 51.8% of respondents chose Prabowo-Gibran," said Indonesian Polling Stations (IPS) researcher Alfin Sugianto when releasing the survey online, Tuesday (16/1/2024).

"Meanwhile, Anies-Muhaimin was only chosen by 21.3% of respondents, while Ganjar-Mahfud is increasingly sinking with an electability of only 19.2%. "There are only 7.7% of residents who have not been able to make a decision (undecided)," he added.

He explained that the decline in the electability of the pair Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud MD according to IPS analysis was correlated with the presidential candidate debate on January 7 2024.

“During the debate at that time, surprisingly there was a deadly duet between Anies and Ganjar to carry out a total attack strategy. As a result, the offensive duet between the two presidential candidates backfired. "The level of public antipathy towards both of them is increasing, while the wave of public sympathy towards Prabowo is getting stronger," he explained.

This is clear from Alfin, it has been firmly confirmed that Anies-Muhaimin's electability tends to be stagnant and Ganjar-Mahfud is increasingly sinking into the caretaker position.

"At the same time, the Prabowo-Gibran couple, which continues to be bombarded with attacks and criticism, is actually being flooded with widespread public sympathy. "Prabowo-Gibran's electability has passed the minimum threshold to win the presidential election in just one round," he explained.

"If this trend continues until February 14 2024, in the sense that there is no political earthquake in the country, it is almost certain that Prabowo-Gibran will complete the 2024 presidential election in just one round," he continued.

This IPS survey was conducted from 7 to 14 January 2024 in 38 provinces throughout Indonesia. The total sample for this IPS survey was 1220 respondents, obtained through multistage random sampling techniques.

The margin of error is +/- 2.8 percent, and the level of confidence is 95 percent. Meanwhile, data collection was carried out using telephone interview techniques (telepolling) by trained personnel with the help/guidelines of a questionnaire. (Ed)
