The Asset Confiscation Bill Has Not Been Passed, Even Though It's Important

Surabaya (beritajatim.com) – Commitment The government and the DPR are once again doubtful about the agenda of eradicating corruption. This is because the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU Asset Confiscation) which was proposed in 2012 has not yet been passed.

The delay in ratifying this bill has drawn criticism from various parties, including legal observer Dr. (Cand.) Hardjuno Wiwoho. According to him, it is important for this bill to be passed immediately,

"Because this bill is an important instrument to make it easier for law enforcement officials to uphold justice and support the agenda for eradicating corruption and economic crime in the country," stressed Hardjuno, Wednesday (17 /4/2024).

According to Hardjuno, the Asset Confiscation Bill is a crucial legal instrument to resolve the tangled issue of corruption in Indonesia.

"With this regulation, the state can confiscate assets resulting from corruption without waiting for proof first," explained this doctoral student from the Law and Development Study Program at the Postgraduate School of Airlangga University, Surabaya.

Furthermore, Hardjuno explained that the Asset Confiscation Bill was a mandate after Indonesia ratified the UN Convention on UNCAC (UN Convention Against Corruption).

"This bill is important to provide a deterrent effect for corruptors," he added.

The delay in ratifying this bill is seen as a form of weak commitment by the government and the DPR in eradicating corruption.

“The Indonesian people are obliged to demand the government and DPR's commitment to this bill. "We must continue to speak out when this bill is passed into law," stressed Hardjuno.

Hardjuno added that the Asset Confiscation Bill would control the corrupt behavior of the elite. "The presence of this law is very strategic to prevent mega corruption such as BLBI and tin cases which are detrimental to the people," he explained.

"The case of Harvey Moeis cs is a momentum to again urge the government and the DPR to immediately pass this Asset Confiscation Bill," concluded Hardjuno. [asg/but]< /strong>
